Job Overview

This role focuses on developing next-generation biodegradable materials for industrial and consumer applications. The position is part of Novozymes’ global initiative to reduce plastic waste through bio-based alternatives. Candidates will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, test, and commercialize sustainable materials aligned with Lesotho’s green development goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory research on biodegradable polymer synthesis and microbial fermentation processes.
  • Collaborate with material scientists to optimize product performance and scalability.
  • Lead pilot projects to test material durability, compostability, and environmental impact.
  • Prepare technical reports and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Engage with local stakeholders to identify regional sustainability needs.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in polymer chemistry, biotechnology, or materials science.
  • Proficiency in lab equipment operation and data analysis software.
  • Strong project management and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Experience with life-cycle assessment (LCA) tools.
  • Fluency in English and basic knowledge of Sesotho.

Education

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biotechnology, or Materials Engineering.
  • PhD preferred but not required.

Experience

  • 3-5 years in R&D roles within sustainable materials or biodegradable product development.
  • Proven track record in commercializing green technologies.

Salary

3,000 – 4,500 SSP per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
