Job Overview
The Network Optimization Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing and fine‑tuning the radio access network (RAN) and core network to achieve optimal performance, capacity and coverage. This role involves close collaboration with cross‑functional teams, including RF planning, operations, and product development, to ensure that Vodacom Lesotho’s services meet the highest standards of reliability and speed. The successful candidate will play a critical part in supporting the company’s growth strategy, enabling new services such as 5G, IoT connectivity and mobile broadband. Key Responsibilities
- Analyze network performance metrics and identify areas for improvement across the RAN and core network.
- Develop and execute optimization plans to enhance coverage, capacity, and quality of service.
- Collaborate with RF engineers to conduct drive‑tests, simulations and field measurements.
- Implement parameter tuning, software upgrades and configuration changes in line with vendor recommendations.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and generate regular reports for senior management.
- Support the rollout of new technologies, including 5G, LTE‑Advanced and network slicing.
- Participate in troubleshooting escalations and provide technical guidance to operations teams.
- Maintain documentation of optimization activities, procedures and best practices.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in data analysis tools and network performance software.
- In‑depth knowledge of GSM, UMTS, LTE and emerging 5G technologies.
- Experience with network planning and optimization tools such as Atoll, Mentum Planet, or similar.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑departmental collaboration.
- Familiarity with vendor equipment from Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei or ZTE.
- Project management experience is a plus.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field is required. Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Nokia NRS, or Ericsson Certified Network Engineer are advantageous.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of three to five years of hands‑on experience in network optimization, performance engineering or a similar role within a telecom operator or a major service provider. Experience with large‑scale network deployments in emerging markets is highly valued.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 250,000 to SSP 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a retirement savings plan.
