Job Overview

The Agricultural Technology Specialist will serve as the bridge between cutting‑edge digital farming tools and the everyday needs of Lesotho’s farmers. Reporting to the Head of Technology & Innovation, you will design, implement, and support precision agriculture solutions, including GPS‑guided equipment, sensor networks, and data analytics platforms. You will collaborate with field engineers, agronomists, and local stakeholders to tailor technology packages that address soil health, water management, and yield optimization. Key Responsibilities

  • Assess farmer needs and recommend appropriate precision agriculture technologies.
  • Configure, calibrate, and maintain GPS‑based guidance systems, variable rate applicators, and IoT sensors.
  • Analyze field data to generate actionable insights on soil fertility, irrigation efficiency, and crop performance.
  • Conduct on‑site training workshops and virtual webinars for end‑users, ensuring high adoption rates.
  • Collaborate with product development teams to customize equipment for Lesotho’s topography and climate.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for hardware and software issues.
  • Develop documentation, user manuals, and best‑practice guides in English and Sesotho.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to technology adoption and farmer satisfaction.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of precision agriculture tools, GIS, and remote sensing.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, R, Python) and agronomic modeling.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non‑technical audiences.
  • Hands‑on experience with farm equipment installation and maintenance.
  • Problem‑solving mindset and ability to work independently in remote locations.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Sesotho is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in precision farming, GIS, or data analytics are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of 3‑5 years of experience in agricultural technology implementation, farm equipment servicing, or agronomic consulting. Prior experience working in Southern Africa or similar emerging markets is a plus.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 250,000 to SSP 400,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based incentives and allowances for field travel.
