Job Overview

The Aviation Safety Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs that ensure Air Lesotho’s operations meet and exceed global aviation safety regulations. Working closely with the Flight Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering departments, the engineer will conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations. The role also involves liaising with the Lesotho Civil Aviation Authority and international bodies such as ICAO and EASA to maintain compliance and adopt best practices. This position is central to protecting passengers, crew, and assets, and it directly contributes to the airline’s reputation for safety excellence. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Air Lesotho’s Safety Management System (SMS) in alignment with ICAO standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and hazard analyses across all operational areas.
  • Lead investigations of incidents and accidents, preparing detailed reports and corrective action plans.
  • Collaborate with the Lesotho Civil Aviation Authority to ensure regulatory compliance and facilitate audits.
  • Provide safety training and briefings to flight crew, maintenance personnel, and ground staff.
  • Monitor safety performance metrics and generate monthly safety performance dashboards.
  • Advise senior management on safety trends, emerging risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Support the integration of new aircraft types and technologies, ensuring safety considerations are addressed.

Required Skills

  • In‑depth knowledge of ICAO Annex 19, EASA Part‑145, and local aviation regulations.
  • Proficiency in safety analysis tools such as FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, and Bow‑Tie methodology.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills for drafting reports, presenting findings, and conducting training.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Familiarity with aircraft certification processes and maintenance procedures.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a closely related field is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Manager (CSM) or Aviation Safety Professional (ASP) are highly desirable.

Experience

Salary
