Job Overview

The Disaster Resilience Coordinator will lead initiatives to strengthen community preparedness for natural disasters and climate-related emergencies. This role involves collaborating with local stakeholders, government agencies, and international partners to design and implement disaster risk reduction strategies. The position is ideal for a proactive professional passionate about safeguarding vulnerable populations in Lesotho.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct risk assessments to identify community vulnerabilities to disasters and climate shocks.
  • Develop and implement disaster preparedness plans tailored to local needs.
  • Coordinate training programs for community leaders and first responders on emergency response protocols.
  • Partner with local governments and NGOs to integrate resilience-building into development projects.
  • Monitor and report on disaster trends, updating strategies based on emerging threats.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in disaster risk reduction, emergency management, or related fields.
  • Strong project management and cross-sector collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of climate adaptation frameworks and humanitarian principles.
  • Excellent communication and community engagement abilities.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools for risk modeling (e.g., GIS, Excel).

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Environmental Science, Public Health, or related disciplines.
  • Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., Certified Emergency Manager) preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years in disaster resilience, humanitarian response, or community development roles.
  • Experience working in Lesotho or Southern Africa is an advantage.

Salary

1,800 – 2,800 SSP per month, commensurate with experience.
