Job Overview
The General Manager (GM) will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to oversee day-to-day business operations, credit management, and strategic growth initiatives.
This leadership role is responsible for driving loan portfolio growth, operational efficiency, collections performance, and staff management within a financial services or microfinance environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product & System Management
- Ensure full understanding of operating systems, financial applications, and loan management platforms
- Act as custodian of product knowledge and system processes
- Train staff on systems, compliance, and operational procedures
2. Deal Origination & Processing
- Oversee deal inflows, loan applications, and credit processing workflows
- Ensure accurate logging of client applications and deal pipelines
- Monitor turnaround times from application to disbursement
- Ensure all deals are correctly captured in loan management systems (e.g., CDAS)
- Maintain audit compliance with zero tolerance for errors
- Coordinate bank disbursements, settlements, and documentation
3. Collections & Credit Control
- Lead and manage the collections and credit control function
- Monitor daily collections performance and repayment trends
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly collections reports
- Implement strategies to improve loan recovery rates and portfolio quality
4. Operational Management
- Develop and execute sales and marketing strategies for loan growth
- Oversee back-office operations and administrative functions
- Ensure high standards of customer service and client satisfaction
- Maintain and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Manage company assets, fleet operations, and office infrastructure
- Prepare management reports and operational performance reviews
5. Staff Management & Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams
- Conduct training, performance appraisals, and KPI management
- Foster a strong organizational culture and team engagement
- Manage employee performance, discipline, and development plans
6. IT & Infrastructure Oversight
- Oversee IT systems, infrastructure, and workplace environment
- Collaborate with Group IT teams to resolve technical issues
- Ensure systems operate efficiently to support business operations
7. Executive Support
- Provide strategic and operational support to the CEO
- Act in the CEO’s capacity during absence or leave
- Contribute to business planning, decision-making, and leadership strategy
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and executive management skills
- Expertise in microfinance operations, credit risk, and collections management
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to engage senior-level decision-makers and external partners
- Strong time management, multitasking, and organizational skills
- High level of accountability, adaptability, and resilience
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Commerce (BCom)
- Finance / Accounting
- Or a related field (essential)
- Postgraduate qualification is an advantage
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in financial services
- Strong background in:
- Microfinance and lending operations
- Collections and credit control
- Operational and staff management
- Knowledge of Lesotho financial regulations and microlending laws
