Job Overview

The Legal Counsel will provide comprehensive legal support to EY Lesotho’s business units, advising on corporate governance, commercial contracts, regulatory matters, and dispute resolution. You will work closely with senior partners, audit teams, and external counsel to mitigate risk, ensure compliance, and facilitate strategic initiatives. Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including service contracts, joint venture agreements, and procurement documents.
• Provide legal advice on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management to senior management and business units.
• Monitor legislative developments in Lesotho and advise on their impact on client engagements and internal policies.
• Manage and coordinate external counsel for litigation, arbitration, and specialized regulatory matters.
• Develop and update internal legal policies, standard contract templates, and compliance checklists.
• Conduct legal training workshops for staff on topics such as data protection, anti‑corruption, and contract management.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Sesotho is an advantage.
• Proven negotiation skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Solid understanding of Lesotho’s commercial law, tax regulations, and corporate governance standards.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast‑paced environment.
• Proficiency with legal research tools and Microsoft Office suite.

Education

The successful candidate must hold a recognized law degree (LL.B. or equivalent) and be admitted to practice law in Lesotho or a comparable jurisdiction. Advanced qualifications such as an LLM or certifications in corporate law are desirable but not mandatory.

Experience

At least five years of relevant legal experience is required, preferably within a professional services firm, multinational corporation, or reputable law firm serving the African market. Experience in sectors such as finance, mining, energy, or technology will be considered a strong asset.

Salary

EY Lesotho offers a competitive remuneration package ranging from SSP 350,000 to SSP 500,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a pension scheme.
