Senior Policy Analyst – Africa Markets
Location: Lesotho 
Job Type: Project-Based / Remote

Job Purpose

The Senior Policy Analyst will monitor and analyze policy, regulatory, and political developments across African economies, transforming insights into actionable intelligence for investors, development institutions, and stakeholders.

This role is ideal for professionals with strong expertise in political economy, economic policy, and international development finance, especially within African markets.

Key Responsibilities

1. Policy Analysis & Economic Intelligence

  • Track legislative, regulatory, and political developments across Africa
  • Assess impacts on investment climate, trade policy, and economic growth
  • Analyze macroeconomic trends, governance frameworks, and public policy shifts

2. Research & Reporting

  • Produce policy briefs, analytical reports, and strategic insights
  • Conduct research on:
    • Public financial management
    • Infrastructure financing
    • Digital economy regulations
    • Energy transition policies
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations

3. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build relationships with:
    • Government officials
    • Private sector leaders
    • Civil society organizations
  • Gather on-the-ground insights and policy intelligence
  • Maintain strong professional networks across African regions

4. Advisory & Strategic Support

  • Provide policy advisory services for:
    • Investment decisions
    • Risk assessments
    • Project development strategies
  • Support clients with evidence-based recommendations and policy guidance

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills in policy research
  • Deep understanding of political economy and regulatory environments
  • Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to interpret economic data and policy frameworks
  • Experience working in multi-country or cross-cultural environments
  • Strong networking and stakeholder engagement capabilities

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in:
    • Policy analysis
    • Economic research
    • Government relations
  • Experience working with leading institutions such as:
    • World Bank Group
    • International Monetary Fund
    • USAID
    • African Development Bank
  • Strong knowledge of African regional policy environments (East, West, or Southern Africa)
  • Experience living or working in Africa is highly preferred

Preferred

  • Exposure to development finance institutions (DFIs)
  • Understanding of investment policy, trade frameworks, and infrastructure development
  • French language proficiency is an advantage
