Job Overview

The Mining Equipment Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for the upkeep, troubleshooting, and optimisation of heavy mining machinery, including haul trucks, excavators, and crushing plants. The role involves planning preventive maintenance schedules, leading a team of technicians, and ensuring that all equipment operates at peak efficiency to meet production targets. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with operations managers, safety officers, and supply‑chain partners to minimise downtime and extend asset life. This position plays a critical part in delivering reliable performance, reducing operational costs, and maintaining compliance with local and international safety regulations. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute preventive maintenance programmes for all mining equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical failures, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of maintenance technicians and contractors.
  • Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability of spare parts and consumables.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, compliance logs, and equipment performance reports.
  • Collaborate with health, safety, and environmental teams to enforce safety standards.
  • Identify opportunities for equipment upgrades, retrofits, and process improvements.
  • Support shift handovers and provide technical guidance during critical production periods.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of heavy‑duty diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
  • Proficiency with computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) and diagnostic tools.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Leadership and team‑building skills with a focus on safety culture.
  • Effective communication skills for interfacing with multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work in remote, high‑altitude environments and adapt to shift work.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related discipline is required. Relevant certifications such as Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or equivalent are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five years’ hands‑on experience maintaining heavy mining equipment, preferably within a large‑scale open‑pit operation. Experience supervising technical staff and managing maintenance budgets is essential.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 250,000 to SSP 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
