Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Petroleum Geologist to join our exploration team in Maputsoe. This role is critical to our success in identifying and evaluating potential hydrocarbon reservoirs. The successful candidate will lead complex geological modeling, interpret seismic data, and provide strategic insights that guide our drilling programs. This position requires a deep understanding of sedimentary basins and advanced geophysical techniques. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data to identify potential drilling targets.
- Develop and maintain complex 3D geological models of subsurface reservoirs.
- Perform detailed petrophysical analysis to assess reservoir quality and potential productivity.
- Collaborate with geophysicists and reservoir engineers to optimize well placement and design.
- Manage geological risk assessments and uncertainty modeling for exploration projects.
- Supervise junior geologists and provide technical mentorship within the exploration department.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for senior management and stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Advanced proficiency in geological modeling software such as Petrel or similar industry-standard tools.
- Expertise in seismic interpretation and structural geology.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities regarding complex subsurface data.
- Excellent communication skills for presenting technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of petroleum systems and basin modeling.
Education
A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Geology, Petroleum Geoscience, or a closely related Earth Science discipline is required. A PhD is highly preferred for this senior-level position.
Experience
Candidates must possess a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in petroleum exploration or development. Proven track record of successful well placement and reservoir characterization is essential. Experience working in diverse geological settings is a significant advantage.
Salary
The annual salary for this position ranges from 450,000 SSP to 720,000 SSP, depending on experience and technical expertise. This package is competitive within the energy sector in the region.
