Job Overview
This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of Lesotho’s textile industry by leading creative design initiatives. The Textile Design and Innovation Specialist will collaborate with international design teams to develop culturally relevant fabric patterns, explore eco-friendly dyeing techniques, and integrate smart textile technologies into local production. Candidates will leverage Lesotho’s rich cultural heritage while adopting global design trends to create market-leading products.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop innovative textile designs that reflect Lesotho’s cultural identity while meeting global market demands
- Research and implement sustainable fabric production methods using local natural resources
- Collaborate with local artisans to preserve traditional Basotho weaving techniques
- Conduct material testing for durability, colorfastness, and environmental impact
- Present design concepts to senior management and international stakeholders
Required Skills
- Proficiency in CAD software (Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW)
- Knowledge of sustainable textile production standards (GOTS, OEKO-TEX)
- Experience with digital textile printing and embroidery technologies
- Strong understanding of Basotho cultural motifs and patterns
- Fluency in English and basic Sesotho communication skills
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Design, Fashion Technology, or related field. Advanced certifications in sustainable design or smart textiles are advantageous.
Experience
3-5 years in textile design, preferably with experience in African fashion markets or heritage textile preservation projects.
Salary
2,500 – 3,500 SSP per month, with performance-based bonuses and annual salary reviews.
